La Bayadère

La Bayadère is set in India. Nikiya, a temple dancer (a bayadère) and Solor, a princely warrior love each other but are respectively loved by the High Brahmin of Nikiya's temple and Gamzatti, the local Rajah's daughter, who conspire to destroy them'. In brief, Gamzatti has Nikiya killed in order to marry Solor herself; Solor in despair dreams of Nikiya's spirit in the Kingdom of the Shades; and when he is forced to marry Gamzatti, the gods destroy the temple and everyone in it. The spirits of Solor and Nikiya are, of course, reunited in an apotheosis.

La Bayadère is a gift from the Volunteer Committee, Burlington School of Classical Ballet. According to the school's character, the show is based on a classical ballet repertoire designed to the student's level of advancement.

As a teacher and the greatest fan of my students, I would like to assure you that each one of them dancing for you, deserves a lot of credit for the hard work and truly magnificent approach toward this, one of the most challenging and beautiful forms of art.
